October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month
Seems like October is most widely known for being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Needless to say, Breast Cancer Awareness is an important topic and its encouraging to see the increased awareness and coverage of the issue. For more information, you can visit the Susan G Komen for the Cure website. They have a wealth of information on Breast Cancer screening, treatment, and support.
But don't forget that October is also Down Syndrome Awareness Month. If you do one thing this month, take a few moments to visit the National Down Syndrome Society website. Its easy to navigate and includes a wealth of information ranging from educational for those of us who may not be familiar with the syndrome, to supportive for those who may be facing the challenges brought on by the syndrome.
One page, in particular, that I found interesting was one entitled "myths and truths" about Down Syndrome.
I also became slightly addicted to their Virtual Storybook Just be forewarned, I can't stop reading the stories! Are there any experiences or stories you have encountered in your own lives that you can share with us?
